About Tamil Credit Courses
The CTA Advantage: Empowering Your Future Through Tamil Studies
At the Canadian Tamil Academy (CTA), we believe that learning our mother tongue is more than a cultural duty—it is a strategic academic advantage. Since 1990, we have been the bridge between high-quality Ontario academic standards and the rich heritage of the Tamil language.
1. Tamil Studies: A Path That Doesn't End at Grade 8
Many families assume that language school is only for young children. At CTA, we challenge this: Grade 8 is not the finish line; it is the gateway.
- Earn While You Learn: Our secondary courses (Grades 9–12) are Ministry-approved. Students earn official credits toward their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
- The University Edge: Our Grade 12 (LITDU1) course is a University-stream credit. This mark can be included in a student’s "Top 6" average for university admissions and scholarship applications, providing a significant competitive boost.
- Reduced Academic Stress: Earning a credit through CTA allows for more flexibility in a student's regular day-school schedule, giving them more time to focus on other demanding subjects.
2. Our Proven 6-Level Curriculum:
We offer a structured, scientific approach to language mastery. Our curriculum is divided into six distinct levels, each supported by its own custom-designed textbook tailored for students in Ontario.
The Beginner Stream (Books 1, 2, & 3): Focuses on foundational skills—phonetics, the Tamil alphabet (அ, ஆ), and essential vocabulary for daily life.
The Intermediate Stream (Books 4, 5, & 6): Prepares students for academic rigor, complex grammar, formal writing, and an exploration of classical and modern Tamil literature.
3. Open to Everyone (No Prior Knowledge Required)
We believe it is never too late to start. Whether your child is fluent or doesn't know a single letter of the alphabet:
- Starting from Zero: Students can join our courses even if they don't know "அ, ஆ".
- Inclusive Pathways: We provide supportive, age-appropriate environments where high schoolers can pick up the language quickly and with confidence.
4. Learn From Anywhere in Ontario
Education should not be limited by your postal code. While we have physical campuses across the GTA, our Virtual Learning Program ensures every student in the province can succeed.
- Province-Wide Access: Whether you live in Cornwall, Windsor, New Market, Barrie or any other cities in Ontario, you can join our live, interactive online classes.
- The Same High Standard: Our virtual students use the same 6-level curriculum and textbooks as our in-person campuses, led by experienced instructors in real-time.
